Do you realize how racist those cartoons were?
Wow some of them are really bad, especially Betty Boop and Porky Pig ones. I havent really taken a look at the others, except Heckle and Jeckle.
Funny, my parents were very racist, but I didnt grow up racist and as far as I know neither did my siblings.
My uncles who lived in Seattle were HORRIBLE they were so racist.
There is one Betty Boop on Youtube that is SO racist - I was shocked, really shocked, WOW thats bad, and its a shame its there now, I guess racist people love to flood the site with these things

every now and again you’ll here stuff about that
It was normal at that point in time. the childrens movie "Dumbo" has racism. ever wondered about the "black" birds and the steriotypical accent to their voice. not meaning to be offensive, just an observation
Whaaaaaat? NEVER heard that one before ! I was born and raised in Detroit, how do you figure they are? Betty Boop and Porky Pig, you may as well add Yosemite Sam!
I guess they were just a reflection of the times. I recently watched the movie "The King and I", which I remembered from my childhood as being wonderful….and it was so racist, I felt sick.
I caught on years ago.
It was part of their generation. You think that way now because we know better now, well, we’re different. Our cartoons also have bad things but what I mean is that they corresponded to the logic of the social parameters ruling at the time. The good thing about cartoons now is that most of them integrate different children and, apparently, foster integration and tolerance.
I’m glad neither you nor you children turned up to be racist.
get a life
None of the older cartoons were p.c. Look back on the cartoons from WW2 and how they paraded and slammed on Hitler, etc..The mammy references in Pluto cartoons. I personally wish they would bring back some of the feel of the old cartoons - I would love to see Bin Laden be trounced by Bugs Bunny.
It was a sign of the times back then. The horrible part is the fact that another minority is looking for the race card in a bunch of old cartoons. By the way, I can’t recall seeing any white people in the old Fat Albert cartoons. Get a job or a hobby that keeps you away from any kind of media.
Yes. A lot of entertainment was. I was watching a Bob Hope movie with Mantan Morland (sp?) and one with Steppin Fechit, and it was very racist, but what can you do? It was the era at that time. Same with cartoons.
check out some of the banned loony toons cartoons on the internet they were pretty racial. I have family members that are bad people too
They were not only racist …they were violent too!
You know they say hindsight is 20/20. I can remember looking at Bugs Bunny, Speedy Gonzalez, Little Lulu, Little Audrey, Popeye, Betty Boop, Heckle and Jeckle, now I can see how racist these cartoons really were, back then, I was a little kid who liked to look at cartoons. But as someone already mentioned, these cartoons were a product of their times. Back then the racial stereotyping was acceptable and a part of American life. I remember looking at the Andy Griffith Show, and how there were no Black, Asian or Latino people in the little town of Mayberry. Wow!
Agape,
Rhonda
I didn’t realize they were racist, probably went right over my head. I was never a racist and raised the kids the same way.
