I can do Betty Boop & Judy Jetson
Archive for September, 2009
Ok , well I dont want a bulky costume and I dont want a too revealing costume either since I'm still quite young , but I want a unique costume at the same time that will stand out in the crowd.
I prefer to have it homemade.Since the store bought costumes look too fake.
So far these are the Ideas I have:
Keira Knightley pirate
Betty boop
Peter pan
Kitty cat
Tinker bell
Please give me some Ideas ! Thanks !!! =DD
My friend is having a fancy dress party for her sixteenth birthday. I've thought of a costume and I'm quite happy with it, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for! I'm going as Betty Boop, I have the right hair etc, but the dress is proving hard. There are costumes available, but I think they are awful ;3 I want a simple, fitted red dress like she wears. I've looked everywhere I can think of, but to no avail! If you could offer some suggestions, I will love you forever

It's not Sharky and George, or Fish Detective. The main character is an orange fish that wears a fedora, and his partner is really whinny at times.
The tool being the internet for this example-I'll just use Yahoo! Answers for now.
Just think of the idea of how many of us AND others have made great virtual friends with others on here? I have :-).
And what is partially awesome is the idea that many of them we only know as an Avatar. It may be a cartoon or a little object or their pets or a clock or what ever lol. But almost no judgment goes on (for the most part ).
But the reality of it is that it truly shows how people can really get along to some degree beyond what sociey pushes on us or how they try to shape us into someone and MAKE us to treat others the way they want.
Their is a never ended series of brutal wars going on that we are no part of ,but it still may be or have been in our backyard causing innocent people to get caluosed hearts towards others who are just as innocent as themselvs.
We all don't know a huge amount of others pasts- We don't truly know what all or most look like, BUT after a while those things become insignificant as we all are able to get words out from our heart and bring them to the surface fully and to dampen the things that may bring a bit of insecurity etc.
We are created in all sorts of colours and shapes from all parts of this beautiful earth. We speak many languages, we may be short or tall or thin or pudgy but we are really all the same.
I hope my message was understood and accepted warmly as that was its intention
I wanna be Jessica Rabbit or Betty Boop- who doesn't love them?!?!?
Amber, would you be Pochajabelle? Or Belljapoch? Or Jabellahontas?
whats the name of that one classic Mickey Mouse cartoon where he has scissors for a sword? i just really wanna know...
I'm planning on being Betty Boop for Decades day (spirit week) and Halloween.
I've already bought one, but I think it's too flowwy for Betty.
I want a tight fitted red dress.
NOT the crappy costume with sequins.
Hopefully not at all expensive, since the one i've already bought was 0.
Mt choices: McCain - Pappy from Popeye the Sailor Man
Palin - Betty Boop from Betty Boop
Obama - Frylock from Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Biden - Bullwinkle from Rocky Bullwinkle and Friends
Myself - Wally from Tennessee Tuxedo.
For the now, I'll only go with animated cartoons; characters from the print media, comic books and newspapers will be asked as separate question later.

These cartoons were based off one topic. I think there was one about cars... And in it, there was a narrator that would talk about the different cars and special features they had...possible one car's feature was to shave the driver. Each little segment had some little gag with the narrator acting as the straight man. I would love to know the name or maker of this episode or genre of cartoon. Thanks for your help!
I'm as Sr in college and am doing a content analysis on the semiotics of gender inequality using historical Betty Boop cartoons as a theoretical lens.
I suffer from dyslexia and NEED a visual image to help simplify this stuff. Even though I understand everything individually, since every description I can find on semiotics is explained in text it's very difficult for me to put it all together.
Can someone please tell me if I even have the idea right at all?
I'm using 5 samples from Betty Boop cartoons ranging from 1930 to 2000.
Here's what I have ( a similar strategy will be used to convey female symbols also)
Men (Superior)
1) Problem solvers
2) Powerful
3) Competitive/aggressive
4) Sexual predator justified
5) Heros
I'm starting out with simple signifiers from each clip and categorizing each one under its congruent symbol (problem solver, superior ect). For example, in one clip Betty has a problem, so the male character puts on his thinking cap to help find a proper solution. The signifier is the male character with the denotative meaning being self explanatory (man), he takes on the connotative meaning of (problem solver), through a series of codes (or a discourse) that influence this meaning. In this case, the codes that influence the connotative meaning "problem solver" are displayed when he puts on his thinking cap (using his brain), discovering a strategy, and executing a successful solution--which leads the signifier (man) to take on the signified meaning (problem solver).
i.e. (Man) signifier = (Problem solver) signified
Of course, these smaller images (man, thinking cap, ect.,) become signifiers/signified early on, on their own, but at a much smaller scale, and when they are encoded, readers associate them with the codes (though discourse) that influence the connotative meanings, and these small symbols become signified also. Then this umbrella of small signifiers and signified symbols all combine and readers decode them to associate (man) as a sign for (problem solver).
i.e.
Connotative (man) takes on denotative (problem solver) through codes ( or a discourse) like executing a proper solution,
So the signifier (man) then takes on this signified meaning (problem solver) and when it all ads up...
Man becomes a symbols for problem solver.
I'm going to take several examples from each clip that will contribute to the larger symbols in each category, as shown in the example above.
Then each of these signs and symbols (problem solver, powerful ect ) will all add up to contribute to (man) as a symbol for (superior) in historical Betty Boop texts.
I have absolutely NOOO idea if I am doing this right???? and also, since "aggressive," doesn't equate to "superior" under these layers of smaller meanings that are supposed to construct the larger symbol (men as superior), it seems as though "aggressive" might not be the right category to display under the entire semantic structure?
Is there perhaps some way I can spin this so that "aggressive" can be associated with "superior" by using examples of aggression in the clips that show how superiority can be achieved by using aggression, but it's not always portrayed in a positive form when used to put other people in danger? Maybe change it to
"controlling" or "dominant" ?
Adding these signs and symbols among the two genders will then equate to the consensus:
Content analysis of historical Betty Boop texts serves as a useful theoretical lens to convey the semiotics of gender inequality--which reflects ideological truths about men being superior to women in American culture--and can have dire consequences for the subjects that take the symbols at face value.
I'm then going to conclude each section with research from primary sources/theories that relate to each underlying issues (like body image, rape ect), to solidify the pragmatic structure of gender inequality displayed in my research.
Does this make any sense???
Am I doing this right at all???
Plz help, I question myself often because I tend to misconstrue directions. ...and at this point I re-wrote the paper at least four times from fear that I was doing it wrong.
Sorry... one of the examples I accidentally mixed up connotative and denotative the "man" and "problem solver." It was supposed to be the other way around if that makes any sense?
I'm not at all trying to portray her as "helpless" based on my "personal" perception, but I never thought about it that way. This is merely an assignment targeted to convey mass-media generated themes about gender inequality. There is a study I am implementing to address this issue, titled "Sex as Power in Women's Magazines"? The article acknowledges the way women can calculatedly use their seemingly subservient position to manipulate a situation to their advantage and still leave men "thinking" they hold the power on the surface. You make some very interesting points. I can see some very logical arguments on both sides of the spectrum.
Still, it's an interesting dynamic the way men and women are historically portrayed so differently.
Great advice
What do You Think I Should Get Her If She Is 24 And Loves Betty Boop! And Tinker Bell Or E.T!
my boyfriend's mom, in one of the few nice things she's ever done, got us a female Jack Russell pup. I took her to the vet the first day, and they asked, "What's her name?" well, he hadn't come with me, so I made a name up on the spot. Taken from a bud's tradition of using musician influences, and big on puns, I said, "Grrrl"
Talking it over with my b/f, he hated the name. He has a tradition of naming critters from cartoons. He took his choice for her from Betty Boop, and from the little girl in Kill Bill 2, so to him she's Bibi, or Bebe, or B.B.
His co-workers say Bibi is cute, while Grrrl is stupid. my friends say, while not brilliant, Grrrl is better than Bibi.
The third option is to combine the names into Bibi Grrrl. I can accept this, since the most common reaction to her sweet face from the ladies (she's a chick magnet, which does me no good, but I got me a beau) is calling her Baby Girl, so it's sort of close.
Your opinion?
Very very smart. Short. It has to be popular sorta nickname. not Betty Boop or whatever.
she is 11 years old (in year 6)
she loves making stuff
she is into betty boop and bratz (but she aint into dollies)
she is a right girly girl
please help

Homecoming week is next week, and one of the days is 'Cartoon Day'. We need to find a good, older cartoon or animated show that the five or six of us could dress up for, and its okay if there are duplicates. Suggestions??
For Halloween this year, I wanted to be something sexy... but not something that's common like a nurse, maid, witch, Dorothy, Goldilocks, etc. Last year, I was a cop and I LOVED the costume. No one else had it at the party I went to, and people were constantly asking about it.
I have been looking for costumes like Mad Hatter, Betty Boop, Eskimo Chick....but I'm having a hard time deciding. I am very open to any ideas anyone would have for me!!
**I'm very skinny with a C chest... so something to flatter that maybe?? This is what I wore last year...

I got a knee length tight scalloped red dress it is off the sholder poofy sleeves and the rest is tight sleeves to my wrists. I have a couple ideas of what to do for halloween with this dress but I need more. I am going to a halloween party and I want to be something that nobody will be (ex: a devil, everyone will be a devil) I was thinking about takeing off the sleves and makeing it a strapless that way it looks more modern. it has a bulky thing of beads on the hip that i want to replace or take off. Any ideas. I was thinking Jessica rabbit but hers is a sleek red dress with a slit. Also betty boop I guess or an 80's barbie. Any ideas!! please help I've tryed Google and that was all i got.
